Opening or relocating an office without a last-minute technology crisis

A carrier, network, room, device and business-cutover plan.

Starting point

What brings the project forward

A business is moving to a new Sydney office while retaining remote staff. The lease is signed, but internet serviceability, cabling pathways, room technology, access control and fallback work arrangements are not yet confirmed.

Constraints

  • Manage carrier and building lead times
  • Coordinate licensed and technology suppliers
  • Make the office usable on day one
  • Protect ongoing customer work

A workable delivery sequence

  1. 01

    Site and dependency discovery

Confirm floor, building rules, carrier serviceability, pathways, power, rooms, users, devices, telephony and suppliers.

  2. 02

    Design and procurement

Approve network, Wi-Fi, rack, ports, resilience, rooms, security, standards and external lead times.

  3. 03

    Stage and prove

Preconfigure, install, test carrier, network, meetings, printing, identity and critical applications before move day.

  4. 04

    Cut over and support

Use a business-owned run sheet, fallback, floor support, acceptance and controlled old-site closure.

  5. 05

    Close the old site

Cancel legacy services only after billing, forwarding, retained equipment, access and data obligations have been checked.

Destination

The site has verified connectivity, cabling, power, secure segmented network, working rooms and devices, business acceptance owners, fallback arrangements and complete support and configuration handover.

Business decisions

  • Primary and backup connectivity
  • Office and remote fallback
  • Meeting-room standard
  • Supplier and building-access responsibilities
  • Cutover and old-site closure criteria

Tests before go-live

  • Carrier and failover are tested
  • Coverage, segmentation and critical applications pass
  • Meeting rooms work for staff using the expected device types
  • Support and configuration responsibility is handed over

Handover material

  • Site technology design
  • Supplier and lead-time plan
  • Cutover and fallback runbook
  • Acceptance and handover pack

Technical and business references

This is a general delivery pattern, not a client case study. Check vendor documentation and obtain appropriate professional advice for your circumstances.

A practical next step

Plan the work around the real environment.

Share what is not working, what is changing or what decision needs to be made. Technical answers can come after the business context is clear.
